Mission Statement
About:
JAG (Jersey Access Group) is a nonprofit 501c3, professional association founded on March 28, 2000, and is governed by its own bylaws. JAG serves municipalities, public schools, universities, nonprofits and independent producers who can benefit from it’s technical expertise, distribution channel, franchise renewal information and legislative consulting (lobbying). JAG meets on the last Wednesday of each month.
Mission Statement:
JAG advocates for the continuing right to access hyper local news, information and communication via public, educational and government media.
JAG actively analyzes and addresses emerging issues in areas such as:
Cable Franchising
- Use and management of public rights-of-way
- Local franchise agreements and renewals
- State franchising laws
- Federal legislation and FCC regulations
- Regulation of rates, franchise fees, and service standards
Operation of Public, Education and Government Media Facilities
- Support the integrity and professionalism of media organizations and facilities
- Develop and maintain a content sharing platform
- Identify funding sources
- Identify equipment sources
- Providing a networking opportunity for developing station operating procedures, production, staffing, and volunteers
- Educate, inform, and promote community involvement
- Provide advice related to the formation of new media facilities
- Identify and develop problem solving strategies
Local Government Communications and Internet Policy
- Social Media strategies
- Consumer protection and net neutrality
- National Broadband Plan, access, and funding
- Public safety spectrum
- Public rights-of-way management and policies
- Service to institutions like all municipal buildings, schools, libraries, universities, hospitals, county services, courts, and community centers.
- Emergency alert systems
- Local government networks including, wired, wireless, fiber and coaxial
New Technology Initiatives and Advancements
- Developments in the telecommunication industry
- Capital equipment purchases
- Advocacy for local communications initiatives
- Digital transition of Public, Education and Government Media Facilities programming
- Integration and best practices for content delivery platforms
- Deployment of wireless networks
- Converging technologies and the impact upon legislation
