Judging and Submitting

Judging is based on five basic criteria: Content, Creativity, Technical Elements – Audio, Technical Elements – Video, and Overall Reaction.  There are a total of 15 competitive categories.

  • All payments or purchase order must be received by Feb. 29, 2024 or the entry may be disqualified.  Contact gfairfield@piscatawaynj.org if unable to meet this deadline.

  • Entries must be no longer than 10 minutes.
    • If the entry is 10 minutes or less, you will submit the entire program.
    • If your entry is over 10 minutes, you will submit a video consisting of 3 sections:  the opening of the program, a portion from the middle of the program, and the closing of the program minus any credits unless they are part of the program closing; the entire submission is not to exceed 10 minutes in total run time.   
    • Each section of the “Over 10 Minute” entry must be clearly separated as follows:
  • Begin with the Opening Section:  at a time of your choosing, fade to black
  • followed by 10 seconds of black
  • then fade up into the middle section; at a time of your choosing, fade to black
  • followed by 10 seconds of black
  • then fade up into the ending section: at a time of your choosing, fade to black
  • the entire entry is not to exceed 10 minutes
    • How long each section will be is up to you but the committee suggests that you show your program in its best light possible
    • You must not re-edit the program sections themselves; they must appear as they were originally produced and broadcast (cablecast).
  • All entries must have a 30 second highlight clip for use as part of the JAG Video Awards presentation.  Highlight clips are due by February 29, 2024.
  • Each entry will be adjudicated in the following method:
    • Gold                                        (76 to 100% of the maximum score)
    • Silver                                       (51 to 75% of the maximum score)
    • Bronze                                     (25 to 50% of the maximum score)
  • Each category will have the following awards:
    • Award of  Excellence
    • Award of Distinction
    • Award of Honor
  • Ties for the Award of Excellence will be broken
  • 2 Additional Awards will be presented to a JAG member for the following:
    • Highest Scoring Independent Producer’s entry
    • Highest Scoring Non-Profit Organization’s entry
      • These awards are only available to current Independent & Non-Profit JAG Members in good standings.
  • All adjudication Certificates and Awards will be available for pick up at the JAG Awards Banquet.
